Mamelodi’s Shalilule relishing opportunity to play at the FIFA Club World Cup

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile cannot wait to play at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
The striker is set to make history as the first Namibian to play at the competition and he is ready to seize the once in a lifetime opportunity.
In an interview with fifa.com, Shalulile believes this is a platform to play against the World’s best.
“Well, it’s a wonderful feeling because you are going to see some of the best players, the best teams whereby you can also see how good you are. I am excited and ready for that,” he said.
The lethal finisher expects a great atmosphere given the massive attendance the tournament has had so far from the games played.
“It is a massive feeling because you don’t want to disappoint at that level. Thousands of fans are watching and you may have butterflies but they eventually go. As a player you want to play before such crowds.”
Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa is one of the four teams representing Africa at this year’s FIFA Club World Cup alongside Esperance Sportiv de Tunis (Tunisia), Wydad AC (Morocco) and Al Ahly (Egypt).
The Masandawana are pooled in Group F alongside Ulsan HD FC from South Korea who they face on Wednesday in their first group game. The other two teams in Group F are Borussia Dortmund (Germany) and Fluminense (Brazil.
Shalulile is confident his team has the ability to compete with the aforementioned teams.
“Well, for such games, you should approach them carefully. We respect them but we will bring our A game because we have prepared quite well.”
“Dortmund has been playing at the highest level for a long time while Fluminense are a possession based team and they gave Manchester City hard time when they played them last year. So we just need to be prepared and ready to face all the teams at the tournament.” He added.
The FIFA Club World Cup for the first time is featuring 32 teams and will run up to July 13th 2025.
