Lugazi stage comeback to overcome Bright Stars

Lugazi FC put up a remarkable comeback performance to overcome relegation threatened Soltilo Bright Stars FC on Friday.

In the game played at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe, the Leaders had to come from a goal down to win 3-1.

Soltilo Bright Stars led 1-0 at halftime through midfielder Noordin Saddic Bunjo who scored a beauty in the 8th minute.

However, Lugazi FC made a quick turn around of events after the break inspired by super substitutes Moses Buga and Alvin Birungi.

Birungi bagged a brace while Buga got the other goal to guide the hosts to victory.

Bunjo opened the scores as early as the 8th minute with his well taken looping shot beating goalkeeper Juma Mutebi.

Six minutes later, the visitors should have double their lead when defender Joseph Othieno lost possession in his own box but Nelson Ssenkatuka chose to lay a pass instead of shooting at goal.

At the start of the second half, Lugazi FC made their first change, introducing Buga in place of Rogers Adriko.

Later on, Birungi and Basham Mugwa also came on in place of Shafiq Avema and Emmanuel Obua respectively.

The changes made instant impact with Birungi leveling matters in the 72nd minute. Birungi made a perfect run into the area to tap home from Mugwa’s well delivered cross.

Two minutes later, Buga got the second goal for the home side with a well curled strike to send fans into wild celebrations.

Birungi put the icing on the cake with his second goal of the day and Lugazi’s third in the 79th minute and eventually guide the team to victory.

The result leaves Soltilo Bright Stars FC second from bottom on 16 points while Lugazi FC moved up to 11th place on 31 points.
