The Mary Louise Simkins memorial golf club in Namulonge has attained reputation as a perfect ground for breeding great golfers, of late.

This nine-hole golf facility which is situated at the largest agricultural research center in the country is famed for providing that conducive environment to the upcoming golfers to train and learn the basics of the game.

One of the signature championships at this club is the Longe ladies’ open, an event that has helped many female players attain ground.

This year, the Longe ladies’ open will take center stage, commencing on the 22nd May through to 24th May 2025.

The field as big as 120 golfers including the lady players from the different clubs in the country are expected to grace the championship, a world amateur ranking event.

Female golfers from the home club Namulonge will be joined by others from Uganda Golf Club (UGC), Entebbe, Mbarara, Jinja, Lugazi Hills and country club (Mehta), Kabale, Palm Valley, Lira, Lake Victoria Serena Golf resort and spa, Arua and others.

The official launch was conducted on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 along the undulating fairway one.

Newly elected Longe lady captain Sheila Aine, also the tournament director addressed the media joined by Ceaser Scott Barole (acting chairman), Timothy Collins Lwanga (club captain) and some of the sponsors’ representatives.

This is an honour and privilege to be part of the event. It’s an opportunity for us to showcase our beautiful course and club, and also a chance to build and support women’s golf in Uganda. We are so excited and I appreciate the sponsors and partners who have come on board to support.

The course is in pristine condition. Let us embrace Namulonge. Ladies have always had a good time here. This is a world amateur ranking golf championship and the ladies will have a chance to score points.

The main event is scheduled for Saturday, May 24, but competition begins two days earlier with silver and bronze categories taking to the course.

Silver players will contest over 36 holes on Thursday and a further 18 on Friday, while the bronze and subsidiary players will play on Saturday.

An exciting 19th hole has been assured to the golfers and guests, with merry-making, party time, dinning and wining.

The tournament, which debuted in 2022, continues to grow in stature and is expected to attract a strong field of female golfers competing for top honours.

Meron Kyomugisha won in 2022 with Peace Kabasweka on the podium as champion in the subsequent edition.

The dress code for the opening round will be white and blue.

The golfers will don black and red during round two and old school at the 19th hole.
