Kampala Queens clinch FUFA Women Super League title despite defeat to Kawempe

Kampala Queens are Champions of the 2024/25 FUFA Women Super League. The Queens of Soccer clinched the title on Saturday despite falling 2-1 to Kawempe Muslim.
In the top of the table clash payed at MTN-Omondi Stadium, Kampala Queens suffered their first loss of the season.
With the title seemingly in the hands of Kampala Queens, the target was to achieve invisibility, a rare occurrence for any team in the FUFA Women Super League.
Having won the reverse fixture 4-1, Kampala Queens needed to avoid a similar score line to wrap up the League crown. It should be noted that FUFA considers head to head for its competitions.
The target was thus to keep pushing the unbeaten agenda. However, the Valley Warriors had other ideas and did not roll the carpet for the Champions elect.
Teenage sensation Agnes Nabukenya once again stood tall for Kawempe, bagging a brace in the game.
Kampala Queens Captain Shamirah Nalugya had an opportunity to give her team the lead in the 20th minute when they were awarded a penalty but she missed.
On the other hand, Nabukenya was perfect from the spot at the stroke of halftime and the visitors led going into the break.
Substitute Peace Muduwa levelled matters in the 52nd minute, scoring his her first touch after coming on.
The visitors, however, regained their lead six minutes later, once again through Nabukenya and this eventually turned out to be the decisive moment of the game.
The loss for Kampala Queens is consequently the first for Ethiopian coach Asefa Firew Hailegebreal who joined the team in November.
Now with two games to the end of the season, Kampala Queens lead on 46 points, six ahead of second-placed Kawempe Muslim.
The Queens of Soccer still have to visit Tooro Queens before ending the season at home to She Maroons FC.
