Arthur Kaluma turned in a man-of-the-match performance as Creighton Bluejays overcame Butler Bulldogs 54-52 on Tuesday night.

The power forward scored game-high 16 points to go with 7 rebounds and 2 blocks to lead the Bluejays at CHI Health Center Omaha.

The win lifted Creighton to 14-8 on the season and 6-5 in the Big East conference, while Butler fell to 11-13 overall and 4-9 in conference play. It was Creighton’s tenth straight regular-season win over Butler.

Down 21-12 with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half, Kaluma began a Bluejay 11-0 run with a three-point play via a dunk and a free throw.

Despite going through a seven-minute drought, the Bulldogs controlled the final 2 minutes of the half to go into intermission leading 30-26.

Upon return from the locker rooms, Creighton wiped out the deficit and tied at 35-35, Kaluma turned the momentum Bluejays’ way again by driving for another three-point play, getting a late shot clock layup, and the free throw.

It was a seesaw the rest of the way as Ryan Nembhard’s 3 points in the final 32 seconds of the game proved to be the difference.

Ryan Hawkins, the other Bluejay to score in double figures, finished with 15 points.
