Jane Asinde: Ensino Lugo confirms departure of Gazelles captain

Uganda Gazelles captain Jane Asinde, has abruptly concluded her time with the Spanish top-flight club, Ensino Lugo CB.

The club announced this news through its official social media channels on Friday, May 5, 2025.

“After helping us through the final stretch of the season, Jane Asinde will no longer be with us. We thank her for her contributions and wish her the best in the future,” the statement reads.

Asinde joined Ensino Lugo in February after leaving the Chinese team, Henan Phoenix. She has drawn interest from various clubs worldwide, particularly following her standout performance, which earned her the title of MVP in the recent FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Zone V Qualifiers.

Throughout her career, Asinde has played for Wichita State University and the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in NCAA basketball, as well as for Henan Phoenix and Ensino Lugo CB.

Asinde is currently in Uganda as a guest coach working with the iHoops Basketball holiday program happening at Fast Sports indoor court.
