“I couldn’t reject Vipers”- Anukani

Former Proline FC midfielder Bright Anukani has finally been unveiled as an SC Vipers player at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende thereby putting to an end to speculations about whether indeed the move had been completed.

Anukani spent the entirety of the previous season on loan to KCCA where he underwhelmed and forced the Lugogo side to not pull through with the initial plan of offering him a permanent deal.

This opened the door to the Venoms who paid for his services with a three-year employment contract but included, is an option to extend for a further year.

While both parties share similar sentiments of delight, Anakuni insists that turning down an advance from Vipers SC was never going to be an option of his.

“I am delighted to have signed for this great club,” Anukani expressed after putting pen to paper on his contract (quoted by the Vipers media team).

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Proline FC and would like to thank everyone at the club, and the fans, for their fantastic support over the past seasons.”

He most importantly added: “However, when Vipers SC came knocking on my door, I could not think twice, it was an incredible opportunity that I had to accept.”

According to the attacking midfielder who has already had a conversation with the head coach Robertinho Oliveira, the gaffer’s vision and plans for the team have provided excitement to him.

“It’s clear to see that he is building a team to win and I am looking forward to more pre-season training, friendlies and getting the season started,” said Anukani.

The 21-year-old Ugandan international joined Proline FC in 2017 where he made a maximum of 45 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 23 goals.

He is also a regular with the Uganda Cranes as seen from his featuring in the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) and most previously the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.

At just 21, Anukani has already won the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup 2019 title with Uganda and the Stanbic Uganda Cup with Proline (2018/19) where he was also voted MVP.
