Gomba Ssaza officially unveils squad to launch bid for 6th Buganda Masaza Cup title

Gomba Ssaza Football Club has virtually seen it as far as the Buganda Masaza football championship is concerned.

With five titles clinched in 2004, 2009, 2014, 2017 and lately 2020, Gomba has lost in the final on multiple occasions.

That said, Gomba now eyes an unprecedented sixth title in as many seasons.

Preparations to have a successful season in 2025 are already in high gear with the management team, technical docket and playing staff fully in place.

On Sunday, 8th June 2025, Gomba management officially unveiled the indomitable seasonal squad at the cathedral home venue of Kabulasoke PTC Core playground.

The event was well graced by the Gomba faithful with the Rt.Rev Bishop Michael Lubowa (Central Buganda Diocese) blessing the ceremony.

There was also friendly match with Ssingo Ssaza which witnessed Gomba sail to a 2-0 victory.

New signings Robert Ssewanyana and Micheal Abura scored the goals for the Lions.

There is a 30 man team with goalkeepersWilliams Kafeero, Julius  Ssenyonjo and Musa Kyazze.

The defenders include; Isaac Apenyo, Frank Tabbu, Razak Mumbere, Hassan Penso Nsubuga, Herbert Onen (team captain), Ronald Fungalo, Meddie Mutamba and Alex Mutebi.

Nicolas Kirabira, Dirisa Masembe, Lawrence Kakande, Peterson Mudulu, Sande Yiga, Micheal Abura and Bosco Kanyike are midfielders.

The forwards on this team are; Richard Lwanyaga, Joseph Ssewaali, Calvin Otim, Robert Ssewanyana, Simon Peter Okwi, Alvin Kitiibwa, Ibrahim Sulundu, Denis Kkonde, Ibra Mulwana, Jeremiah Rwotho Jabira, Thomas Tebasiima and Eric Wabuziba.

Technical team:

Vastly experienced coach Simon “Ddunga” Ddungu is head coach.

Simon Ggita is first assistant whilst William Ssuubi is fitness coach.

The goalkeeping coach is Jamaada “Body Love” Magaasi.

Gomba is caged in Bulange group; the same pool that has 2022 winners Busiro, 2011 champions Buluuli, Busujju and islanders Ssese.

This year’s championship officially kicks off on Saturday 21st June 2025 between the title holders Buddu and  at Kitovu Sports Arena.

The Buganda Masaza football tournament does not accommodate players who have elevated to the FUFA Big league status, those who have played for the senior national team (Uganda Cranes) and the U-23 side (Uganda Kobs).

This championship is not only credited for providing a viable platform for player development, but also, to administrators, referees, journalists and other sectors as stadium managers, stewards and other team leaders.
