The Batball Maxx final lived up to the billing with a thrilling final between Gold and Emerald on Sunday at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Emerald the overwhelming favourite dropped only one game to make the final while Gold had worked hard to get into the final.

Emerald won the toss and elected to bat first. Captain Simon Ssesazi (43) and Ronald Lutaaya (46) were the top scorers for Emerald while Pascal Murungi (31) had some flourish at the back end. Youngster Yunusi Sowobi (3/29) was the stand-out bowler for the Gold team.

In response, Robinson Obuya (28) got Team Gold off to a flyer with some big sixes that pegged Emerald back. Oscar Manishimwe (27) and Gerald Olipa (28) got some starts but it was the inning from their Captain Kenneth Waiswa (32 off 13 balls) that changed the course of the game, taking down the required rate.

Once Kenneth Waiswa departed Stephen Wabwose (34) took matters into his own hands keeping up with the run rate and when it came down to 6 off 6 in the final over, Rwandan international Zappy Bimenyimana backed himself to clobber a six with 4 runs required off the final 2 balls.

Gold upset the odds to win against the favourites Emerald by the barest of margins. Kenneth Waiswa led his team to the title and also won the MVP award of the tournament which comes with a cash prize of $500.

Godfrey Kakaire won the Young Player of the Tournament award, Ivan Baidu won the Best Bowler of the Tournament award with Ronald Lutaaya took home the Best Batter award, all the individual awards come with $500. Team Gold took home $3000 as a winning prize for their efforts.
