NAMILYANGO

The central schools league started on the 8/6/25 being hosted by Kings College Budo where 9 teams featured that included: Kings college Budo, Namilyango college, London college, Makerere College, Luigi Giussani HS, Vienna College, Hana international school, Greenhill Academy, and Kololo HS.

The central schools rugby 7s league kick started with a small number of teams which worried the USRA chairman Okello Dickson who kept operating by proxy for most of the day, probably coordinating more teams to participate.

The Host team didn’t take advantage of home ground and were taught rugby at their own turf by Namilyango college Anchors and the Tigons ( the Namilyango college junior team) by clinching the main cup and the plate cup championship of the first circuit respectively.

The rest of the schools performed according to the following order at the first circuit. Namilyango college, Makerere college, Kings College Budo, London College, Hana international school, Greenhill academy, Luigi Giussani HS, Vienna College, Kololo HS.

The second circuit was played at Namilyango college on the 15/6/25, where the Anchors left no room for faults at home grounds.

The final score doesn't do Justice to how well the Anchors meticulously executed their attacks and defence against all the other teams to the extent that they excited and mesmerized all the fans at the Wellington grounds. This was characterised with short accurate passes, quick legs, clean sheet offloads and a quick press to the opponents that left many opponents gasping for water to cool their engines.

At one point it looked like the anchors were fully exhausted during the finals where Hana international School put up a spirited fight to equalise one minute after conceding a non converted try. They ultimately led the scores for a greater part of the first half but could not fully defend the volatile attack from the Anchors.

The title hopes are now up to the anchors to lose if they lay their guns down says the patron Ecimon Thomas, for they have won two circuits out of the three circuits with the fourth dubbed as the coronation rugby 7s circuit.

The bet to the trophy may come out of complacency and the vast number of amateur players who have gained ample rugby skills and want to feature at any opportunity for the Anchors out of excitement says coach Sema. This can turn out costly because the coaches of other schools are clearly noting their grey areas and are mastering the prolific way of play of the Anchors. They will ultimately put up a formidable force to counter the smooth run of the Anchors to the championship.

The coronation cup 7s was launched by Prince wassajja at makerere college Wednesday 11/6/25 escorted by officials from the rugby union.
