Authorities in Cameroon have expressed anger towards the ongoing talk that the nation is not ready to host the January 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to journalist Lesley Angu, the footballing authorities and the government have been left baffled by the false propaganda being spread by media across the continent.

The government says it has done thorough preparations and the Minister of Sports and Physical Education in the country Professor Moulle Kombi Narcisse has time and again assured the nation and the continent of their readiness to host Africa’s biggest football showpiece.

“Moulle’s visit (at the Paul Biya Stadium) is one of the inspections he has been doing on the other infrastructures as the country prepares for the tournament in January,” Angu explained to Football256.

“He used the visit as an advantage to discuss trending issues affecting Cameroon’s preparations. It is not news that this week there has been so many tabloids talking about how other nations are showing interest to host next Africa cup of Nations.”

“So, the minister thought extensively about it referring to the success of the CHAN(in Cameroon) that ended in February 2021. He wondered how possible they would have a successful CHAN and all of a sudden, they are not ready for the AFCON,” he added.

A few days back, CAF announced that it had postponed the 2022 Africa cup of nations draws to a yet to be confirmed date due to logistical reasons related to the coronavirus.

It should also be noted that in 2018, CAF stripped off Cameroon’s rights to host the 2019 AFCON to grant it to Egypt citing reasons related to unreadiness, a memory that has driven fear among the nation’s faithful.

However, the journalist has assured that nothing of the sort will happen again as the government has massively extended its influence in the preparations.

“The Cameroon football authorities and to be specific the minister in charge of communication in the country Sadi Rene Emmanuel assured the public that the tournament is happening and it will happen in Cameroon,” Lesley elaborated.

Angu also highlighted that all but just one stadium are completed as they near full readiness to hosting the coveted continental tournament.

The Douala Unification Stadium, Limbe-Beau stadium, Roumbe Adja stadium, Ahmado Ahadjo Japoma stadium have all been fully completed ahead of the January 2022 AFCON.
