Calvin Echodu Gains Massive Support from NRM Delegates in Koboko Municipality, Koboko District, Yumbe District, and Maracha District

NRM delegates and leaders from Koboko Municipality, Koboko District, Yumbe District, and Maracha District gathered at the Koboko District Chambers to show strong support for Mr. David Calvin Echodu in his bid for NRM Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region. The gathering was filled with enthusiasm, unity, and strong calls for fresh leadership within the party.
The meeting began with opening remarks from Dramiga Samanya, the Chairperson of Koboko District. He warmly welcomed Echodu and praised him for being a humble leader who connects closely with the grassroots. Samanya expressed concern about the declining strength of local party structures and urged Echodu to advocate for changes in the Local Government Act to strengthen monitoring of government programs.
As a sign of their trust and confidence, the delegates gave Echodu a new name—“Echoni,” meaning “the able one” in the local language. The name was a reflection of their belief in his ability to lead with integrity and action.
Ambassador Nelson Ocheger, the head of Echodu’s campaign, described him as a hardworking, humble, and focused individual. He highlighted Echodu’s contribution to various regions including Teso, Karamoja, Lango, and parts of the endorsing districts, where he has worked closely with communities to support development. Ocheger emphasized that Echodu has been committed to the NRM party and to improving people’s lives throughout his journey.
When Echodu took the stage, he expressed deep gratitude to the delegates for their support. He described himself as a “man of action” and said that while President Museveni has made great achievements, the current generation faces new challenges that require fresh energy and bold ideas. Echodu promised to support the mobility of local leaders, provide training for party cadres, and establish Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) to build stronger party structures.
A touching moment came from the Chairperson of the Elders League in Maracha, a senior citizen who shared a personal story of how the NRM changed his life. He recalled how he struggled to complete school during the insurgency. “I repeated S3 for three years until NRM came,” he said with emotion. He gave his full blessing to Echodu, saying the region needs focused, honest, and forward-looking leaders.
The event ended on a symbolic note as the Elders League handed Calvin Echodu the NRM party flag. They encouraged him to “keep the flag high and shining,” showing their full confidence in his ability to lead the party into the future.
Among the key figures present at the event were Jamila Sera, Chairperson of Koboko Municipality NRM; Dramiga Samanya, Chairperson of Koboko District; Aniku Majid, Chairperson of Koboko NRM; Ofeku Gabriel, Chairperson of NRM Maracha; and Sadick Mainstream, Chairman of Aruv Subcounty.
The strong and united backing from Koboko Municipality, Koboko District, Yumbe District, and Maracha District signals growing support for Calvin Echodu’s leadership, and a shared belief that he is ready to take the NRM and the region to greater heights.
