BREAKING!! Dr. Tanga Odoi Kicks Speaker Anita Among's Opponent Mrs Hellen Odeke Out Of The Race

Hellen Odeke Akol, a well-known politician from Bukedea District, is once again caught in a tough political and legal fight as she tries to run in the 2025 elections. She wants to become the Woman Member of Parliament for Bukedea District, running against the current MP, Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among. For the second time in five years, Akol says powerful people are using unfair and illegal methods to stop her from running.

How the Problem Began

The problems started when the Electoral Commission was updating the voter register. Akol went to the Bukedea District office and was shocked to find that her name had been removed from the register. This was not a simple mistake. When she checked with the main Electoral Commission office in Kampala, they confirmed her name was still in the national database. She then checked the NRM party register and found her name missing there too. This was a major issue since she planned to compete in the NRM party primaries.

Akol wrote to the NRM Party Chairman, President Yoweri Museveni, asking for help. She also contacted the Party Secretary-General, who is responsible for party membership records. An internal investigation found that Akol’s name had been removed from the NRM register on purpose. This wasn’t an accident—it looked like someone was trying to block her from running.

The Secretary-General responded quickly. He ordered her name to be restored and gave her official documents showing that she was a valid party member. Akol paid the nomination fee and expected to receive her nomination forms. But to her surprise, Dr. Tanga Odoi, the chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, refused to give her the forms. He reportedly told her rudely, “You’ve wasted your money!”

New Evidence and Continued Blockage

Akol again contacted the Secretary-General, who told her the results of a forensic investigation. Experts found that someone had used ink to cover her name in the original party register, but they could still see her name underneath. With this proof, the Secretary-General told Dr. Tanga to give Akol the nomination forms.

Even with this official order, Dr. Tanga still refused to issue the forms. Akol’s efforts to run were blocked again.

A Legal Case With Familiar Patterns

Soon after, on June 13th, Akol was served with court papers. The hearing was set for June 16th—just three days later—giving her very little time to respond. The case was filed by Akol Zipola, who claims to be an NRM member and is also the sister of Akol’s opponent, Anita Among.

Zipola accused Hellen Akol of illegally registering in a village where she does not live, and also said she is not a true NRM member but part of the opposition FDC. Many see this as a political move to block her from running, especially because of Zipola’s family ties to Anita Among.

This is similar to what happened in 2020, when Akol was blocked from running due to a legal case involving her name. Even though she won the case later, it was too late—Anita Among ran unopposed.

The Fight Continues

Now, in 2025, Akol faces the same strategy. She strongly denies the claims and says, “I have never registered in Ocekereni village.” She says she is determined to continue the fight, not just for herself, but for the people of Bukedea who deserve a free and fair election.

The court hearing has been set for July 17th, but the nomination deadline is June 30th. Akol believes this delay is meant to stop her from being nominated. Meanwhile, Dr. Tanga Odoi has already declared Anita Among the only candidate. This has raised more concerns about fairness and transparency.

From removing her name from official records, refusing nomination forms, to court cases with weak evidence, Akol believes this is all part of a plan to silence her and control the election.

A Message to the Nation

Akol asks: “What kind of democracy do we have in Bukedea? Can one person’s interests be more important than the will of a whole district? Can people use government offices and courts for their own gain without being held accountable?”

She says these are serious questions for all Ugandans. If politicians can use their power to stop competition, democracy is not just in danger—it is already being destroyed. She still hopes President Museveni will step in and ensure fairness in the NRM and in the country.

Conclusion: A Fight for Democracy

Hellen Odeke Akol is not just fighting to be a candidate—she is standing up against political manipulation. She wants fair and open elections for everyone.

If she wins, it won’t just be her personal success. It will be a victory for democracy in Uganda. But with little time left, the big question remains: will justice win, or will power and corruption decide the future of Bukedea?
