Big Win: Bright Stars edge Tooro for season’s maiden victory

After an abysmal start to the 2021/22 Startimes Uganda Premier League campaign, Soltilo Bright Stars finally earned their first win narrowly beating Tooro United 1-0.

The Friday Kavumba Recreation Play Ground encounter also witnessed interim head coach Simon Mugerwa’s first win since taking over from Baker Mbowa who left about a month ago.

As it is the norm for Bright Stars this season, Nelson Senkatuka was yet again the scorer of the lone goal a first half penalty.

Before Senkatuka’s 40th minute spot-kick, Bright Stars’ Marvin Joseph had missed a glorious chance in the 13th minute, his strike going over the bar after being set by Japanese midfielder Kazuto Kushida.

Two minutes to the end of the first half, James Angu should have doubled the lead but he could only watch on as his strike sailed inches wide.

After great interplay between Senkatuka and Marvin Joseph in the 56th minute, the former’s goal-bound effort was brilliantly blocked by the Tooro backline to miss a second.

In the 67th minute, substitute Joseph Janjali set Senkatuka through but his chipped effort missed the target, flying over the bar.

Bright Stars have moved a place up, to the 14th position with five points after six games. They will visit Wakiso Giants on November 30 in their outing.

On the other hand, Tooro have slipped to the 15th position with four points and will host UPDF FC on November 30 next as they seek redemption.
