AFCON: CAF speaks out on referee Sikazwe’s controversy

At long last, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has spoken about referee Janny Sikazwe and his controversy caused in the game between Tunisia and Mali on Wednesday.

The Zambian blew his whistle twice before fulltime that is in the 85th and 89th minute during the Eagles’ 1-0 edging of the Eagles of Carthage at Limbe Stadium.

In the aftermath of the game, Tunisia lodged in an appeal for the game to be replayed which was on Friday morning dismissed by CAF.

And, many were wondering what would happen next to the match official. Friday early morning rumours had it that he had been sent home but later on in the day, more reliable sources indicated that he was going to continue officiating at the tournament.

However, CAF finally has its say regards the matter; “In relation to the AFCON match between Tunisia and Mali played in Limbe on Wednesday, CAF is gathering all the necessary reports from the officials at the match,” a CAF statement read.

“CAF is forwarding these documents to the competent bodies of CAF. At this stage, CAF is not in a position to make further comments until the responsible bodies indicate the way forward,” it added.

Reports in Cameroon indicate that Sikazwe was affected by the sun hence suffering from heatstroke which could have sparked off his bizarre decisions.
