AFCON 2021: Ajaccio defender starts in goal for Comoros against Cameroon

Following the Covid-19 outbreak in the Comoros camp that has left them goalkeeper-less, left-back Chaker Alhadur has been selected between the sticks as they take on Cameroon.

The Africa Cup of Nations debutants made it to the round of 16 where they are tussling it out with the hosts at the Stade de Olembe, Yaounde.

However, they have no custodian available due to Covid and injuries in the squad. First forward, first-choice goalkeeper, Ben Boina is injured and could not be available.

The other options including Moyadh Ousseini returned positive results. Ali Ahamada, who is the other option first tested positive on Friday, but, he later on Monday tested negative.

However, the CAF Covid regulations require that he isolates at least for five days, and as a result, could not play as well, leaving the 30 year old Ajaccio defender as the evening’s goalkeeper for Comoros.

Despite calls to have the game postponed by the Comoros camp, CAF turned a deaf ear and are now due for the bout in Yaounde.

The victor will take on Gambia who have eliminated Guinea in the third round of 16 tie.
