A Pass criticizes UEDCL for disco-like power supply in Uganda

A Pass has criticised the newly established Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) for unreliable power supply, humorously likening the flickering lights in his home to “disco lights.”

The artist aired his grievances during a TikTok live session, where his home lights began flickering, disrupting the broadcast.

A Pass seized the moment to express frustration with UEDCL, which took over electricity distribution from Umeme in April 2025.

He mentioned the frequent blackouts and inconsistent power supply that have plagued households since the transition.

I am just showing you how electricity works in Uganda. Our electricity is like this. We are giving thanks to Light for their good job turning our houses into discos,” A Pass quipped to his viewers, adding, “You can call this film, Hungry Days. At least with candles, you are better off than this.

A Pass’s remarks follow those shared by Sheebah Karungi, who recently returned to Uganda after a six-month maternity leave in Canada.

Sheebah also slammed UEDCL for the persistent blackouts, joining a growing chorus of Ugandans voicing dissatisfaction with the state-owned company’s performance.
