The seventh City Tyres East Africa Badminton Challenge edition has been launched in a colourful event.
The launch was held at the City Tyres head offices in the Industrial Area along Sixth Street on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
The tournament is scheduled to run from October 17 to 20 at the Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala.
During the press conference, the Uganda Badminton Association President, Annet Nakamya, expects a successful event with confidence in the Mandela Group of Companies’ support.
“I am confident that we are going to hold a better and bigger successful tournament of badminton,” she stated.
“We thank Mandela Group of Companies that has supported us in the previous editions till date. It’s very important for the tournament that has always given value to our participating athletes,” she added.
“For the athletes that have started young, this tournament has helped the nation nurture raw talent that has gone all the way to perform on bigger stages.”
Mandela Group of Companies Chief Marketing Officer Herbert Bashasha promised a better show since they have had ample time to prepare.
“We are ready and going to fully sponsor the tournament. This is the seventh time we are doing so, and the experience has been worthwhile,” he stated.
“This year, we expect the teams to do better, and it’s very important to acknowledge that we support team Uganda throughout the journey.”
The annual tournament is expected to attract players from Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, DR Congo, Burundi, and South Sudan, who will be vying for several prizes.
