3rd Mwenge Corporate League: Hoima Elites win title unbeaten


There was jubilation at Katosa Holly ground as Hoima Elites Football Club was crowned champions for the third edition of the Mwenge Corporate League.
The victors capped off a sensational unbeaten campaign with a 2–1 penalty shootout win over St. Peter’s Health Club after a goalless draw in the final.
The Hoima-based team delivered a master class in consistency, going the entire tournament without defeat and conceding just two goals in nine matches a record that stood unmatched across all participating teams.
From group stage to glory
Hoima Elites was pooled in a competitive group A. They began their campaign with a 1–0 win over Life FM, thanks to Bryon Mwesigwa’s strike.
In the second game, it was another 1-0 result against Raising the Village, courtesy of a decent goal from team captain Joshua Atugonza.
During the third duel, the oil city entity edged Fort Portal Wazee 2–1 with the goals coming from David Muliisa and Cornelius Kabagambe.
Two consecutive goal-less stalemates followed against City Galacticals and SonLight Primary School to emerge second from the group, still unscratched.
At the round of 16, Hoima Elites ejected Team NATO 2-1 in post-match penalties (normal time ended goal-less).
They also bundled out Star Lounge in the quarterfinals 2-1 in penalties (1-1 in normal time) to book the Fort Portal Wazee in a tense semi-final contest.
The on-form Hoima Elites dumped Fort Portal Wazee 1-0 with Mwesigwa on target to progress to the long-awaited finale.
The final was played in front of an energetic crowd, ended goalless after regular time, forcing a dramatic penalty shootout.
It was goalkeeper Innocent Tegusulwa who emerged the hero saving crucial penalties to seal a 2–1 victory and hand Hoima Elites their first Mwenge Corporate League crown.

Most Valuable Player (MVP):
Captain Joshua Atugonza was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, recognized for his leadership, lethal infrastructure of goal and scoring a match winning goal in Group stages.
“This win means everything. We fought for our city and earned our place in history, ” Atugonza, a vocal skipper on and off the field of play remarked in the post-match interviews before a host of journalists.
Meanwhile, Tegusulwa was named most outstanding goalkeeper, having kept multiple clean sheets and made match defining saves in the final.
“Every moment on the pitch was for my team and my city,” he said.
Proceeds from the tournament will be used to buy sanitary and scholastic materials for Katosa primary school which offered venue for participation.
The team now turns focus on the Elgon tournament scheduled for July in Mbale city.
