2025 Plascon national Schools Badminton tourney returns after 5 year’s hiatus

The 2025 Plascon national schools Badminton championship has shuttled off on Friday, 13th June at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium, Kampala.

Over 30 schools in the Juniors (primary) and secondary level are taking part in the competition.

This championship returns to the Badminton scene after a five year’s absence following the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

There are 33 schools (primary and secondary) taking part in this year’s Plascon national schools’ badminton that returns after five years. This tournament is significant in grooming the young talented players who have raised over the ranks. We are humbled for the sponsors (Plascon, National Olympic Committee and Uganda Olympic Committee), the schools, games teachers, coaches, the players and the parents who have supported in the different ways.

There is an overwhelming attendance of players to a tune of 360 participants in the Under 10, 13, 15 and 19 for both girls and boys at Individual and school team’s basis.

There will be team events, doubles and mixed doubles.

Caris Camilla Ssekyanja from St Janan High School, Bombo

One of the participants Caris Camila Ssekyanja from St Janan Secondary School Bombo is keen about a successful championship.

“I am more than happy that our tournament is back after a long time. I will make the best use of it to learn new skills and play competitively” Ssekyanja remarked.

“As a player, winning is the target. I also want to learn from my friends” Zahara Miracle Nakibuuka, from Seroma Christian High School Mukono remarked.

The championship will climax on Sunday 15th May 2025.

This tournament was last played in 2019 and due to the outbreak of covid 19, the tournament was stopped. 

Plascon, National Council of Sports (NCS), Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) are some of the key stakeholders that Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) has worked with to ensure a successful championship.
