Uganda Senior Women National Team head coach George William Lutalo has noted that his team is still far from the set target and called upon the girls to keep their eyes focused on the set goal.

This came after Uganda registered a 2-0 emphatic victory against Ethiopia in the 2022 African Women Cup of Nations qualifiers at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday evening.

“The journey is still on until we reach the finishing line,” Lutalo said in the press conference shortly after claiming maximum points.

“Much as we have scored two goals it was not quite enough for us. We have not yet achieved the goals and that only means we have a struggle ahead of us.”

“The players put up a great show at the field of play, they adapted well to the system and played a good game but we are not celebrating yet.”

“As the technical team, we arranged the strategy and we partially achieved it, this was only managed because we knew our opponent and the style they use to play.”

“However, the players still need to keep pushing so that we reach the finishing line because they know our target and we surely have to get it. We shall need to keep working as a team to achieve.”

The winner between Uganda and Ethiopia will meet the victor between Kenya and Sudan for the final spot at the coveted tournament in Morocco.

The two sides will meet for the second leg in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia on Tuesday, October 26 to negotiate who moves to the next round of the qualifiers.
